Review request text message templates

21 short, distinct texts by industry, plus the US texting rules to check before you send.

Before you send a review request text

Each template below uses [Business] and [link] placeholders. Replace them with your business name and the direct review link from the correct Google Business Profile location, then test the finished message on a phone. A good text names the sender, ties to a completed experience, and carries one link. It never asks for a rating or specific words.

In the US, marketing texts fall under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA, a federal law on marketing calls and texts). Under the FCC's rules, marketing texts sent with automated tools generally need the person's written consent first. People can opt out with any reasonable reply, such as STOP, QUIT, END, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE. You must honor an opt-out within 10 business days. A review request can count as marketing, so get consent first and stop when someone asks.

Email requests fall under a different law, the CAN-SPAM Act. It requires honest sender and subject lines, a postal address, and a working unsubscribe. This is general information, not legal advice; the official rules are linked below. Ask a lawyer about your situation. Other countries have their own rules.

Google's rules for requests (no incentives, no asking only likely-happy customers, no pressure on the premises) are covered in our guide to asking for reviews. Every template here should still read fine to a customer who had a mixed experience.

General-purpose texts

Pick one that matches how you normally talk to customers and send it once. Keep your business name at the start so the message is recognizable.

1. Simple

Thanks for choosing [Business]. If you'd like to share your experience, here's our Google review link: [link]. Honest feedback is welcome.

2. No pressure

Hi from [Business]. If you'd like to review your recent experience, this link opens our Google page: [link]. No pressure, and thank you either way.

3. With an opt-out line

Hi, this is [Business]. Thanks for visiting. You can share an honest Google review here: [link]. Reply STOP to opt out of texts.

Make sure STOP actually works on your texting tool.

4. Ask permission first

Hi, this is [Business]. Thanks for coming in. Would you like a link to share feedback on Google? Reply YES and we'll send it.

Useful if you are unsure you have consent: send the link only after they reply.

Restaurants and food businesses

Send after the meal or pickup, not while a server waits. If an order went wrong, fix that first. Do not suggest which dish to praise.

5. Dine-in

Thanks for dining with [Restaurant]. If you'd like to share how your visit went, we'd welcome an honest Google review: [link].

6. Takeout or delivery

Thanks for ordering from [Business]. After you've enjoyed your meal, you're welcome to share an honest review of the experience: [link].

Home services and trades

Wait until the job is finished and the customer has checked it. Keep addresses, invoice amounts, and job details out of the text, since they can show on a lock screen.

7. Job complete

Hi from [Plumbing Business]. Thanks for having our team out. Once you've checked the repair, you're welcome to share your honest experience: [link].

8. Large project

[Roofing Business] here. Thank you for trusting us with the project. When you've had time to look it over, share your experience here: [link].

9. Recurring service

Hi from [Cleaning Business]. We hope the space is working well for you. If you'd like to share honest feedback about our service: [link].

Salons, wellness, and appointment businesses

A shared phone or visible notification means privacy matters. Leave out treatment, diagnosis, or any personal detail. A review is voluntary and must never affect future care or service.

10. Salon

Hi from [Salon]. Thanks for visiting. If you'd like to share your experience in your own words, here's our Google review link: [link].

11. Gym

Thanks for being part of [Gym]. If you have thoughts about the experience, you're welcome to share an honest Google review: [link].

12. Clinic or dental office

Hi from [Office]. We welcome feedback. If you choose to leave a Google review, the link is [link]. Please avoid sharing private health details publicly.

Retail, ecommerce, and auto services

For online orders, wait until the product arrives. For repairs, wait until the customer can judge the result. Never put an order number, plate number, or address in the text.

13. Local shop

Thanks for shopping at [Store]. If you'd like to share how your visit went, here's our Google review link: [link].

14. Online order

Hi from [Store]. We hope your order has arrived safely. If you'd like to review your experience with us, visit [link].

15. Auto repair

Thank you for choosing [Auto Shop]. After you've had time to assess the service, we welcome an honest Google review: [link].

Travel, lodging, and moving

A message after checkout or after the move gives people room to reflect. Leave out destinations, home addresses, and deal details.

16. Hotel, after checkout

Thank you for staying with [Hotel]. If you'd like to share an honest review of your stay, our Google page is here: [link].

17. Tour

Hi from [Tour Business]. Thanks for joining us. If you have a moment, we'd welcome your own account of the experience: [link].

18. Movers

Thank you for choosing [Moving Business]. Once you're settled, you're welcome to share honest feedback about the service: [link].

Professional and family services

Use neutral wording. Do not imply an outcome, confirm a private matter, or invite confidential facts. Offer a direct contact route for service concerns, and have the relevant professional approve the template.

19. Accounting firm

Hi from [Firm]. We welcome honest feedback about working with our team. If you'd like to post a Google review, visit [link].

20. Law office

Hi from [Office]. If you'd like to share a public review, our Google page is [link]. There is no obligation, and please don't include confidential details.

Neutral on purpose: it does not mention any matter or outcome.

21. Childcare provider

Hi from [Provider]. If you'd like to share general feedback, our Google review page is [link]. Please avoid children's private details.

Check before sending

Verify the link, business name, and location. Read the text as a customer who never saved your number: is it clear who sent it and why? Keep one tested version per service line rather than letting staff improvise.

Send one request after a real experience, through a channel the customer agreed to. If they reply with a complaint, help them first and do not insist they review. When a review arrives, reply publicly; Google notifies the reviewer.

A template gives consistency, not authenticity: the customer writes the review in their own words. You can also create a review link or QR code from your Business Profile for printed cards.

Frequently asked questions

Can I text every customer for a Google review?

Only customers who have consented to texts from you. In the US the TCPA generally requires consent for marketing texts, and you must honor opt-outs. This is not legal advice.

Do I need an opt-out line in the text?

It is a good habit. FCC rules say a reply such as STOP must be honored within 10 business days, so check that your texting tool handles it. This is not legal advice.

Should the text ask for five stars?

No. Invite an honest review and leave the rating and wording to the customer.

When should I send the text?

After the person has completed enough of the experience to assess it, such as after a visit, delivery, or finished job.

What link belongs in the text?

Use the direct review link from the correct Google Business Profile. Test it on a phone before sending.
