How to make a QR code for Google reviews
Search for your business by name and city, or paste a Google Maps link. Choose the right result and a QR code appears. Pick a download size and, if you like, change the colours. Then download a PNG or an SVG file. The code contains your Google review link, so when a customer scans it with their phone camera, the review box for your business opens.
Test it before you print anything. Open your phone camera, point it at the code on your screen, and tap the link that appears. Check that it opens the correct business. Print one copy first, scan that copy, and only then order a batch.
Google also makes a review QR code for people who manage a Business Profile. Open the profile, choose Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and save the QR code image. Google says this only works in a computer browser, not on a phone. This tool works without profile access, and it lets you choose an SVG file, the size, and the colours.
PNG or SVG: which file to use
A PNG is a picture made of pixels. It is the right choice for emails, Word and Google documents, social posts, slides, and most home or office printing. Pick the largest size if you are unsure; you can always shrink it. The 512 px size suits screens, 1024 px suits cards and flyers, and 2048 px suits posters and window signs.
An SVG is a vector file, which means it is drawn from shapes and stays crisp however large you make it. Send an SVG to a sign maker, a printer, or a designer who is laying out a menu or packaging. If you are not sure what to send, send both.
Where to put your review QR code
- Checkout counter or front desk. A small sign with a one-line message, placed where customers wait or pay.
- Receipts and invoices. Print it at the bottom with a thank-you line. This suits retail, restaurants, and trades.
- Tables, menus, and table tents. Good for cafes, restaurants, and salons. Our review card maker prints a ready-to-fold design.
- Vehicles and uniforms. Use a large, high-contrast SVG, and make sure it is safe and legal to scan from where it is placed. A code on a moving vehicle is hard to scan.
- Packaging and thank-you cards. A small card in a parcel works for online shops with a Google Business Profile that shows reviews.
- Waiting rooms and treatment rooms. A discreet sign is better than a staff member asking out loud, and respects privacy.
Add a few plain words next to the code, such as "Scan to review us on Google". A clear line tells people what the code does before they scan it.
Make sure it scans
Most scanning problems come from a few common mistakes. Keep a blank border around the code (the downloads include one). Print the code at least 2 cm wide (a common rule of thumb, so test your own print). Use a dark code on a light background, ideally black on white. Do not stretch the image or squash its proportions. Do not print it on a glossy surface that reflects light, or on a curved bottle where it bends. Check that it scans from the distance your customers will stand at, and in the lighting of the room.
The QR code stores the full review link, so the amount of detail in it stays the same however you style it. That is why the pattern looks fairly dense. A shorter link would make a simpler pattern, but the density is fine for modern phones as long as the printed size is not tiny.
Ask the right way
A QR code makes it easy to leave a review. It does not change the rules about asking. Google does not allow reviews in exchange for rewards. It also does not allow selectively asking for positive reviews, often called "review gating", where you only invite people likely to give a high rating. Put the same invitation in front of every customer. Do not say what rating to give. See Google's review content rules. If you just need the link as text, the Google review link generator gives you that.
Be careful with places where scanning may feel pressured, such as a payment terminal when a person is waiting behind the customer. Google's policy says businesses should not pressure people to leave reviews while they are on the premises. A calm sign near the exit lets people decide in their own time.
Then show the reviews you collect
The QR code brings in the reviews. VerifiedWidget helps you display them on your own website with a widget, so visitors see real Google reviews without leaving your page. The free plan has one widget with branding shown, and the paid Reviews plan starts at $99 a year. Start from the free Google reviews widget, or compare plans on the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
Is the QR code free, and does it expire?
It is free. The code stores your Google review link directly, so it does not depend on our site and will not expire. It keeps working as long as the review link for your business works. We do not track scans.
Where is the QR code created?
In your browser. Only the business search goes to our server and Google Places. The image you download is generated on your device from the review link.
Should I download PNG or SVG?
Use PNG for most things: documents, emails, social posts, and printing at home or at a print shop. Use SVG when a designer or printer wants a vector file that stays sharp at any size, such as signs, vehicle wraps, or large posters.
How big should a printed QR code be?
There is no official size. A common rule of thumb is at least 2 cm (about 0.8 inch) square on a card. Go larger for scanning from a distance, roughly a tenth of that distance. Always test the printed result with a phone before you order a batch.
Can I change the colours?
Yes, but keep a dark code on a light background with strong contrast. Light-on-dark and low-contrast colours can fail on some phones and apps. The tool warns you when your choice looks risky.
Can I put a logo in the middle?
This tool does not add logos. A logo covers part of the code and can make it harder to scan. If a designer adds one, they must test the result on several phones.
Collect on Google, show on your website
Add a widget with your real Google reviews to your site. Connect with a Google Maps link and paste one script tag (a short piece of code).
