Google reviews widget for auto repair shops

Drivers worry about surprise charges. Put reviews about honest estimates beside your booking button and your warranty terms.

Drivers read repair reviews for one thing: will I be surprised?

A repair shop has a trust gap. The customer can't see the problem, so they rely on the estimate and the person explaining it. The reviews that matter say things like "called me before doing extra work" or "showed me the old part."

Pick the reviews where the customer wrote those phrases themselves, and use a list layout so longer reviews about a diagnosis stay readable. Keep the call or booking button above the widget.

Estimates, approvals, and warranty terms

Auto repair is regulated at the state level, and the rules differ. California is one example. Its Bureau of Automotive Repair says a shop must give a written estimate before work starts. It must also get your approval before the cost goes above it (BAR consumer guide). The same guide says the invoice must list each part replaced and say which parts are used or rebuilt. Customers can also ask for their old parts back, but they must ask before the work is done. Look up your own state's requirements.

In California, every repair shop must also be registered with BAR and post a sign that lists customer rights. The invoice must show the shop's auto repair dealer (ARD) registration number. Print that number beside the widget too, so drivers can check it on the BAR website. Then explain your process in plain words. Say how you estimate, how you get approval for added work, and how long parts and labour are warrantied. The widget then backs it up with real experiences. Don't feature a review praising a low price as if it were a standing quote.

Example: from drop-off to review

  1. The customer books online. The confirmation says you'll call with an estimate before any work begins.
  2. You diagnose, call with the estimate, and note the approval and time on the work order.
  3. At pickup you hand over the itemized invoice and warranty terms. If the customer asked for the old parts when they signed the estimate, they go home in the trunk.
  4. Two days later, a text goes out with the Google review link. Brake jobs and oil changes get the same text.
  5. You search your reviews in the dashboard for "brakes", save the matches to a named collection, and show that collection on the brakes page.

Request templates

  1. After a repair: "Thanks for bringing the car in. If you'd like to leave an honest Google review about the visit, here's the link: [link]."
  2. After an inspection with no work: "Thanks for letting us check the car. If you want to share how the inspection went, here's the link: [link]."
  3. After a warranty visit: "We hope the follow-up fixed it. If you'd like to leave feedback, here's the review link: [link]."

Send it to everyone who picked up a car, including the ones who declined work. A free oil change or a car wash in return for a review is a reward. Google's review policy bans that, and the FTC's 2024 rule bars rewards that depend on a positive review.

Set up the widget

Connect your Google Maps listing, pick a layout, and paste the script into your service and booking pages. The Free plan shows up to 20 reviews, refreshed monthly. The Reviews plan adds automatic sync, unlimited widgets, and named collections for each service page. Search stars aren't available for your own site's reviews (why).

Frequently asked questions

Should I put reviews on the booking page?

Yes. A short carousel above the form works, or a badge in a corner that doesn't cover the form. Keep the form itself uncluttered.

Can I highlight phrases like "honest"?

VerifiedWidget has no text-highlight feature and doesn't edit review text. Choose reviews where the customer used that word, and leave the wording as written.

What if a review mentions a price?

Leave it out of your collections. Prices change with parts and labour.

Do I need written estimates?

Rules vary by state. Check your state's consumer affairs or automotive repair agency.

When should the review request go out?

A day or two after pickup, once the customer has driven the car.
