How to add Google reviews to Blogger

Blogger lets you add an HTML/JavaScript gadget to your layout, or paste the script into a post's HTML view.

Quick answer

  1. Copy the script tag from your widget's Embed dialog in VerifiedWidget.
  2. In Blogger open Layout, click Add a Gadget in the sidebar or footer and choose HTML/JavaScript.
  3. Paste the script, save the gadget, then click Save at the bottom left of the Layout page.
  4. Check the blog in a private window, on desktop and phone.

What you need

A Blogger blog you own or administer. Blogger's layout help says third-party code is added at your own risk, so back up your theme before editing it.

Steps for Blogger

  1. Pick a gadget-sized widget

Blogger sidebars are narrow, so a list layout fits there, while a grid fits a footer or a full-width area. The badge layout ignores the gadget's spot and floats in a screen corner on every page. Save the widget and copy the script.

  2. Add the HTML/JavaScript gadget

In Layout click Add a Gadget in the area you want, choose the HTML/JavaScript gadget and click Add. Add a title if you like and paste the script into the content box. Save the gadget, then click Save at the bottom left of the Layout page.

  3. Or put it in a single post

Switch the post editor from Compose to HTML view. Paste the script where you want the reviews, for example after the paragraph about your service.

  4. Theme edits only if you must

Edit the theme only for placement a gadget cannot give. First save a copy: in Theme, click the down arrow next to Customize, choose Backup, then Download (Blogger's backup steps). The same menu has Edit HTML. A theme mistake can break the whole layout.

Blogger-specific problems

Where reviews help a blog

A Blogger site that promotes a business benefits from reviews on the About or services page, where a reader decides whether to contact you. A floating badge is a light touch on every post; a grid suits a dedicated reviews page. Only your real Google reviews are shown, and you can hide ones that do not belong and group the rest into a named collection.

Checking a Blogger page after publishing

Open your blog on both a computer and a phone, and scroll to the gadget. Blogger themes vary a lot, so a gadget that looks right in the layout screen may sit differently in the live theme. If you used the HTML view for a post, preview the post before publishing and view the live version afterwards. If you ever change themes, the gadget may move or disappear, so check the layout again and re-add the HTML/JavaScript gadget if needed.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Blogger sidebar gadget not show on phones?

On some themes the mobile version hides sidebar gadgets. Use a footer gadget or place the script inside a post in HTML view.

Can I use more than one gadget?

Yes, but each widget counts its own views toward your monthly allowance. One gadget is usually enough.

Does Blogger allow scripts?

Blogger lets you add code through gadgets and theme editing. Its help says authors who add code or third-party widgets do so at their own risk.

Gadget or theme?

A gadget is simpler and safer. Edit the theme only if you need placement the layout cannot give.

Does this work with a custom domain?

Yes. If you use the domain allowlist, add the domain to it.

Can I add reviews to one post?

Yes, in HTML view.
